It’s no secret I have small feet. As an adult, I’ve bought many shoes in the children’s section. It’s never been an issue for me, until today. I had a nerve conduction study/EMG on my foot. They stick a couple of electrodes on, send an electrical current through, measure distance between the wand and electrodes, then measure how quickly my nerves transmit the signal. Move the electrodes and repeat for various nerves in my foot & lower leg. All went well until the last measurement, which is for the fascia along the bottom of the foot. He warned it can be a challenging one because the skin is thicker and it can be harder to find the nerve. However, he hadn’t accounted for my tiny feet. For the test to be accurate, there’s a minimum & maximum distance between wand and electrodes. No matter how he repositioned things, he could not get that minimum distance because my feet are too small. 🤣 After countless tries, with my skin getting redder and more & more sore from the shocks, he finally decided to go with the closest one and make a note about the shorter distance. It’s a problem he’d not had before, but leave it to me to create a challenge! He did say from his end, everything looked good and he saw no signs of nerve damage. My doctor will call with official results once she gets them, and then we’ll determine next steps for this ongoing issue.
